Adansonia digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil is derived from the seed of the baobab tree (“tree of life”), native to southern Africa. It’s a wonderful ingredient for both hair and scalp because it contains plenty of omega-3 fatty acids, which lock in moisture to prevent dryness and flaking, soothe inflammation and strengthen hair. It also contains a number of important vitamins and minerals.

Aloe barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Extract/Leaf Juice is made from the spiky desert plant you already know for its soothing relief after a day spent in the sun. Aloe contains fatty acids, amino acids and vitamins that can help moisturize and nourish hair, as well as enzymes to cleanse it. Aloe also has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe dry, itchy scalp.

Althaea officinalis (Marshmallow) Root Extract is derived from an African herb used for centuries in natural medicine. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which help it soothe dry or mildly irritated scalp. It has plenty of ‘slip,’ which makes it ideal for detangling curls and knots.

Ananditam (Sandalwood) Essential Oil is often used in fragrances for its soothing, calming scent, but it also provides plenty of benefits to the skin. It has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, helping to keep skin soothed and protected. It also may help with soothing and smoothing scarring and wrinkles.

Argania spinosa (Argan) Oil is extracted from the kernels of the Moroccan argan tree, and is often known as “liquid gold,” due to its amazing moisturizing and nourishing properties for both skin and hair. It contains antioxidants that may protect skin, scalp and hair from oxidative damage caused by sun, pollutants and other environmental factors.

Arginine is an amino acid found in keratin, a protein that’s responsible for more than 90% of hair’s structure. Arginine helps to strengthen hair, prevent breakage and loss, as well as provide moisture and protection against damage from styling, chemical treatments and heat.

Astrocaryum (Tucuma) Seed Butter, sometimes known as murumuru butter, is made from the seeds of a tree found in the Amazon rainforest. It stimulates production of elastin and collagen, and provides long-lasting, natural moisture. It contains antioxidant polyphenols and fatty acids, offering hydration, nourishment and protection for dry, dull or frizzy hair.

Attales speciosa / Orbignya oleifera (Babassu) Oil is derived from the babassu palm, a tropical tree native to South American rainforests. It provides lightweight, non-greasy moisture for both hair and skin. Babassu oil is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, which may help soothe irritation and protect skin and hair from environmental damage.

Azadirachta indica (Neem) Oil is extracted from the seed of the Indian lilac tree. It contains fatty acids, vitamin E and other antioxidants, which offer nourishment, moisture and protection for the skin.

Bertholletia excelsa (Brazil Nut) Seed Oil is made by pressing the (delicious) Brazil nut, which is found on trees in the Amazon. Brazil nut oil contains a variety of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and antioxidants which provide nourishment, moisture and protection for the hair and scalp. It’s rich in selenium, an important mineral.

Butyrospermum parkii (Shea) Butter is made by harvesting and crushing the nuts found in the fruit of the karité tree, which is native to the Sahel region of Africa. Shea butter is naturally moisturizing, especially for coarse or curly hair. It’s safe to use on all types and textures of hair, and even helps fight frizz. Shea butter contains fatty acids and vitamins (A and E) that lock in moisture for both skin and hair.

Calophyllum inophyllum (Tamanu) Oil is derived from the seeds of the tamanu nut tree, found in southeast Asia. It’s a potent emollient, which means it’s an ideal ingredient for moisturizing dry or aging skin. In addition to long-lasting moisture, it also provides anti-inflammatory effects and may stimulate collagen production.

Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil is one of the most popular ingredients in both skin and hair care, for good reason. It contains fatty acids that can help lock in moisture, as well as prevent protein loss that leads to breakage from styling, brushing and even washing. Commiphora (Myrrh) Essential Oil comes from a thorny tree native to southwest Asia and northeast Africa. It has antibacterial and antioxidant properties, and may help soothe and protect minor skin irritations.

Ulmus fulva (Slippery Elm) Bark is derived from the inner bark of a North American tree. It’s unsurprisingly very slippery, making it a perfect ingredient for shampoo and conditioner formulated for curly hair; it helps detangle curls and coils without the use of harsh unnatural chemicals or greasy oils. It also contains amino acids and minerals to help nourish and strengthen the hair.
